LEARNING

Workshops

"Any fool can know. The point is to understand." — Albert Einstein

Workshops at MARC are research-oriented, investigative driven, group classes. They are designed to foster, understand, and practice with a new interdisciplinary broad approach to art-making. Whether covering new technologies, design, filmmaking or experimental art practices, the workshops apply the same rigorous attention to context, processes and didactics—providing comprehensive learning and practical skills development, and are designed to be interactive and engaging.

Workshops are offered on a rotating first-come / first-serve basis. They have limited class sizes and sometimes are available equally onsite and online. Costs cover the workshop itself and are not inclusive of accomodation expenses. Unless otherwise noted, all of our workshops are taught in English, and are free of charge to studios' residents.

Description

Video/Film and photography are becoming more and more pervasive in our daily lives. Conceptually, visual anthropology draws on theoretical and methodological connections between human perception and imagination, the use and production of audiovisual media, and ethnography. We look at how technology has changed, affected and intersected, our visual perception of reality versus the constructed. We dive into an understanding, and the implications, of what has a digitized image become today in the realm of screen-based media and AI.

Description

Art is largely developed thanks to emotional intelligence. Human-based creativity is an ever-evolving and unique endeavor. Current generative AI systems can only produce poor approximations of the human creative works they are trained on.

We look at new tools The Glaze Project ➔ like Glaze, Nightshade and others, designed to protect artists and designers from unauthorized AI training on their work as well as AI parsed reproduction/mimicry.
